Family Values
Dan’s family is the source of his conservative values. His parents worked hard to provide for their family through their labor and they always showed a great devotion to their faith. Dan’s patriotism is inspired by his father, a veteran of the Korean Conflict. As a member of the 1st Marine Division he was in the first wave of the Inchon Landing and survived the Battle at the Chosin Reservoir. From his mother he learned that the most important thing in life is your faith and to serve God and others. From both he learned the value of hard work, compassion for others and to stand up for what is right.
A native Texan, Dan was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. The youngest of four, he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in McAllen, Texas and graduated from McAllen Memorial High School. His family struggled financially at times and it was through these experiences that Dan learned his conservative fiscal values and the value of hard work. The Montalvo Family never turned to the government for help. At the age of 10 Dan began working along with his family in different jobs to provide for their expenses. Dan has never forgotten where he came from and he knows that a person’s background or economic situation cannot and should not keep an individual from striving for success.
His parents preached that a focus on education was the key to success and they did their best to give Dan the assistance he needed to achieve this goal. In 1992 he graduated from the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas then in 1995 from Texas Tech University School of Law. He did so after working a summer in Washington, D.C., studying for a semester in Rome, Italy and a summer in Mexico City, Mexico. His academic success allowed him to do so with Academic Scholarships; the University of Dallas Southwestern Presidential Scholarship and the Texas Tech Board of Regents Scholarship.
He served the citizens of Dallas County as an Assistant District Attorney. He gained invaluable trial experience and worked to protect the community right along side Law Enforcement. As a Criminal Defense Attorney he has aggressively represented the accused and worked to protect the Rights to which all are entitled and make this Country great. He has stood by Law Enforcement in their times of need before Internal Affairs, Public Integrity and has gone out to the scene of a Police Shooting in the middle of the night. He has the unique advantage of experience and the wisdom that comes from having experienced just about any situation that may arise in Criminal Court.
He is the most qualified candidate for Judge of County Criminal Court No. 2. Dan has devoted himself to the practice of criminal law since 1996. He has worked hard to know and understand the law and he will use all of his knowledge do treat each case fairly and do so in the most efficient and cost saving way. He will make the citizens of Dallas County proud.
